RE: Link Exchanges Are Worthless
That whole link exchange thing is time consuming as well--with no guarantee of payoff. Half the time webmasters don't even respond to me after I've spent the itme searching for a suitable website to link to!

RE: Link Exchanges Are Worthless
I spent the best part of April, getting reciprocal links for 10 of my sites, then paid someone to spend most of May doing the same thing. Frankly the results were and are poor. Worked well for attracting spiders, but that's all. Most of the sites dropped PR on the last Google update.
The only method of getting links that works for both traffic and PR is writing and distributing unique articles, with a twist.

A → B & C → A.
B&C should not have any kind of relationship. They should be at different hosts and not have reciprocal or just a one-way link between them.

RE: Link Exchanges Are Worthless
Given all of the discussion that's been going on over the last few days about the changes AdWords advertisers have been experiencing, I'm questioning whether any kind of pure link exchange is worth pursuing.
Based on what I've read, advertisers are asking Google why their ad rates have gone up, and they're being told that it's because of the poor quality of the visitor experience on the advertiser's landing page.
If the guys who are paying to be listed are being told to improve their content, should those of us who seek organic listings do likewise? Wouldn't it be better for us to attempt to contribute to the content on those sites that we want linking to us, and likewise solicit contributions from the publishers of those sites for our own?
Granted, we may not get trades item-for-item or link-for-link. Still, if our efforts enhance our visitor's experience, isn't that kind of a content and link building strategy worth it?
Best,
