For purposes that I/You want to have a lot of people clicking the ads on your/my site where is the best reconizeable places to have ad spots on your site?

I personaly think somewhere in the banner at the top of the page.
In my opinion, people tend to ignore ads if it was placed in such a way to let people know that they are required to click it for the webmasters to earn money. I think the best way to get something out of the ads is to integrate it very well with your sites, such that it blends with the site itself where people wouldn't realise that there was ads on the site. I think most people are doing that nowadays to earn as much as possible.
kinda depends on the type of site you have, doesnt it?
forums, and blogs would be different than some others...
My site is just a general Joomla website format, and I find my best places to put ads are on the left menu side and inbetween articles. I have been suggested to place them underneath the banner, but it does leave a bad impression for first time visitors.
Ight thanks people. I agree with Howdy the most because realy why would someone want to just click an ad? I only click ads about hosting or design or something just to check it out. I also click ads that are asssiate with the website im at because its obviuse i like the stuff or I wouldn't be at the site.
Maybe you should check this helpful info from google adsense.. it's proven system... very helpful!

When placing ads on my Web site I make sure the ads I place relate to the subject of my Web site, and then I place them where I know my visitors want to go and will be likely to click on them.

For an easier explanation of what I do, here's an example:

My Web site tells about my writing (books I've published, articles I've published, etc.), and I also list resources for writers. The resources for writers section is where my ads are placed. Because visitors want resources they'll visit this section. I have my resources for writers section separated into different areas of resources -- books for writers, services for writers, publishers, paying markets and etc. Since I'm an Amazon associate I use my Amazon associate links and place books for writers in the "books for writers" section. For the services for writers I only place ads that offer just that -- "services for writers."

I have had success placing my ads like mentioned above. I also do place banner ads, but results have shown more success when I do them like I point out above.

I hope this more clearly explains what I mean, but if you have any questions at all just ask me.

Never give up on your dreams -- work toward them,

I do agree that it is very important to have ads targetted to the purpose of a particular page.

With google Adsense, I found that I get the most clicks from text links either directly below the main navigation on the left side, or somewhere near an image in the text or content section of my front page.
Some people also try to trick visitors into clicking on AdSense by making the text font color blend in. Or placing photos above the Adsense box.

I get the most clicks from pages where I discuss product type things vs. advice type things.
Personally I would say that top middle and on the right hand side are the best places for smaller adds. Will they be animated?
