I haven't hired anyone from India lately. I have found that often in Indian software culture, people are organized in teams, and I can rarely speak to the actual person doing the work. I usually hire people from Eastern Europe, as they tend to work more as individuals, and even in team situations, it is easy to communicate with all members of the team.
