So google site links those links that show up underneath when someone searches your site by your name. We don't have those, our competitors do. I'm not sure why and I was wondering what was the best way to go about having them show up. would the google site maps tool help with that?

I think it requires Google to consider your website the "main source" a the given search phrase. I do not know of any special techniques as such for obtaining sitelinks.
